Screamers:-Looking as if it just busted out of Bellevue, this four-man unit fashions a unique style of psycho-rock. With the unusual instrumental lineup of two keyboards and drums, lead singer Tomato du Planty sings of modern diseases of the mind with a fevered angst that is down-right alarming. The live sets are precisely controlled exercises in simulated terrorism that are paced to achieve a maximum tension. Band members are all intriguing individuals who in some ways seem more suited to film than the rock stage. Despite the cerebral nature of its music, the Screamers is one of Los Angeles' most popular-and daring-bands. - K.M.
